Okay, you're keen to get started as quickly as possible. Here's what we'd suggest:
Prep
- Create a class.
- Create student codes for your students.
Lesson one
- In class, complete How to Writelike (which will have been automatically assigned to the class when you created it). It should be doable in a single lesson.
- Note: Make sure students complete the copy of lesson that is assigned to the class, not any copy they might have assigned to themselves. (If they complete a personal version of the lesson, their checkpoint piece won't go into Wrotevote.)
- Play Wrotevote at the end of the lesson—students should all have a short, punchy opening submitted as their checkpoint piece. This should give students a sense of closure and some motivating feedback.
Lesson two
- Assign an easy lesson: we'd suggest Em Dashes or Semicolons from the Expressive Punctuation set, or something from the Remix series, but it really depends on your class. (They may prefer to do something story-oriented.) Don't do anything longer than ~15 pages.
- In class, begin the second lesson as a group, and then let students work independently.
- They may have to finish the lesson at home.
Ongoing
- In the next class, play Wrotevote together again.
- Once everyone is comfortable, assign whichever lessons you like and let the class start doing Writelike as regular homework.
- Spot check the class dashboard to monitor student performance.
- Use occasional classroom Wrotevote or Checkpoint Peer Review sessions to maintain motivation.
That's it! Easy!
