Overview

Writelike respect the rights of our users, authors and publishers. Writelike, unless otherwise stated is the owner of all copyright and data rights on the Writelike website, this includes any content that isn’t already owned by its’ members and publishers/ authors.

Copyright, in a nutshell is a legal right that grants the creator of the original work exclusive rights to its use and distribution. So for example; when someone creates an original piece of work they automatically obtain copyright. Copyright does not protect ideas, information, styles or techniques, names, titles or slogans. Find out more about copyright. http://www.ipaustralia.gov.au/get-the-right-ip/copyright/

Protecting publishers and authors

Writelike has compiled a large collection of snippets from published writers, to which we add instructional commentary, highlighting and examples. All snippets are attributed and linked to sources. We believe this is fair educational use since we don’t reproduce extensive consecutive extracts that reproduce the reading experience, and the bulk of the value for users is in the instructional commentary, not the source material itself.

We also reproduce the work of artists as inspiration images within lessons, or as title card cover images. We curate these from gallery websites such as Pinterest and ArtStation, or from published book cover art. We credit and link to the source image and artist wherever possible.

That said, Writelike respects creator and publisher rights, so if you would like your content removed, please email support@writelike.org

Protecting Writelike users

Anything you post on Writelike’s service that is your original work, becomes entirely your Intellectual Property. When you post work in lessons you’ve assigned to yourself, they are only visible to yourself. When you publish in a group, then your content will be visible to any group moderators, and possibly to other group members depending on whether or not peer review is on, and if lesson pages include response feeds. Group members will also be able to see your name and profile picture/avatar.

By submitting, posting or displaying your content through our services, you grant us a worldwide royalty free license (with the right to sublicense) to use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, publish, transmit in any way on all types of media. That’s a broad license, but the intention is simply to be able to promote Writelike by showing examples of work and impact. We will notify users whose work we reproduce as a courtesy. If a user has any objections, we will take these into consideration.

Use of copyright material

If you want to use specific copyright material, permission must be sought from the original owner and evidence sent to Writelike; support@writelike.org

Copyright infringement

If Writelike receive a copyright infringement notice on the behalf of a member, we reserve the right to take any material down immediately with no warning to that member.

Creative Commons is a non-for-profit organisation that enables the sharing and use of creativity and original works. In other words, if you want to give people the right to share, use and even build upon work that Writelike or yourself have created, a Creative Commons licence can be applied for. For more information, go to the Commons website.
