Narrative Basics Project: Worrying about a friend
9 pages
- Purpose
- Practise writing a scene that blends physical action, thoughts, feelings and dialogue.
- Description
- This lesson pulls together some of the elements in the Middle Years Narrative course. We take a small scene from Lauren Wolk's Wolf Hollow, in which a girl worries about what might be happening to her friend. We break it down into four short fragments, model patterns in each fragment, and then recombine. At the end we have a checkpoint piece. The lesson probably takes 1-2 hours in total, depending on the level of student ability, engagement and teacher support.
