Some of these questions are tricky!
- It's definitely not a matrix because in a matrix there's one list item per row, and the other columns contain properties of that item. This layout is a grid, but it's not a matrix.
- But would you say it's horizontal or vertical? It doesn't really matter; you could say it's either, or both. On balance, I read it left to right in rows, so I would say it's horizontal. Someone from a culture that reads vertical script might see it differently.
- Unordered.
- One level in the hierarchy.
- List items are images of animal eyes.
The items are detailed because they are photographs that capture a lot of visual detail.
The visual presentation rapidly conveys a lot of information, though as a 'reader' we might only be notice some of the detail if we slow down and examine and compare items closely.
