In even the most outlandish science-fantasy story, there is usually a "normal" state before the story takes off—and these norms are often very close to our existing norms. In this lesson we model a passage from S.F. Said's Phoenix, in which we establish what everyday life is like in the far future. The language and structure is simple and the lesson is standalone, so this is a good lesson for middle-years students to experiment and play.
