Time for a bit of free writing to put everything you've learned into practice. Here's an inspiration image:

Write about this picture and use at least five prepositional phrases. As you write, think about:

  • the types of meanings we can create with these phrases (place, direction, time, why or what for, who or what with, in what way etc)
  • chaining and nesting prepositional phrases
  • turning processes into things by using -ing or question words, and
  • using prepositional phrases to expand on detail.

Here's a snippet to give you some ideas, but don't worry about modelling it too closely. Write whatever you want, just see how much you can do with prepositional phrases.

Below them, a whole troupe of the little creatures were bouncing and running and leaping, heading for the path below them, and before he could say another word, he was snatched up by a pair of bony hands and was flying through the air in a series of jumps and lurches, as the creatures headed down to meet the others of their kind.
