See you next time

That's the end of this lesson.

You should know the function of a noun group is to represent things in your sentences.

You should be able to spot the boundaries around a noun group in a sentence, and you should know the basic components of a noun group:

  • Focus
  • Pointer
  • Quantifier
  • Describer
  • Classifier
  • Thing
  • Qualifier

And you know that qualifiers can contain their own noun groups, meaning that a single noun group can sometimes contain a huge amount of information.

Now you know the anatomy of all the things! See you next time!

Allie Brosh's All the Things meme

Look at all the things around you and practise saying what they are in your head. Try to use all the different pieces of a nominal group and try mixing them around. Experiment! See what works, and what doesn't.

Look out for nominal groups. How complex are they? What components does the author include? What effect does it have when authors use different components?
