That was a big lesson. Let's do a quick recap:
- Nominalisation lets us turn processes (which we'd normally represent with a verb group) into a noun group.
- It's very common in history and social science writing, but you'll see it used all over the place.
- Because the processes have been expressed as noun groups, we don't need as many verb groups, which in turn means we don't need as many connectors to join up clauses. This can help us pack in a lot more information in a sentence—called compression.
- Nominalisations can get pretty complex, so take the time to break them down bit by bit to understand the process being described.
See you next time!
