Introduction

We're going to do impressions of some different writing styles all around the topic of ‘everyday life’ in fiction, including being self-conscious, ranting about the world, observing people, and celebrating friendship. To give us something to write about, we'll use this picture as inspiration.

Okay... we’ve fudged a bit here. There’s no specific genre of literature called ‘everyday life’, but there are plenty of fiction stories that don’t have fantastic characters or settings; they’re about the drama and comedy of everyday things.

This lesson celebrates those stories.

We'll do five exercises. For each exercise, you'll get a snippet in a particular style of writing, and then an example showing how you could apply that style to the image.

Once you submit, you’ll be able to read and react to responses from others in your group.

If you're ready, let's write!
