Persuasion is underpinned by argument, which is underpinned by reasoning. This lesson introduces students to two types of everyday reasoning: cause & effect, and criteria & match. Using examples from articles, news reports, and video essays, we show how each type of reasoning works, point out some common language features and invite students to try each style for themselves.
