Remember, emotion is largely about moving the audience:

  • A speaker can move the audience towards or away from something (with emotions such as desire and fear).
  • Encourage the audience to stay still (with emotions such as calm or regret).
  • Throw the audience off balance (and then move them towards or away from something, using emotions such as confusion).

There are many ways to create and use emotion—we only dipped our toe in the water in this lesson!

Persuasion is everywhere. Grab anything you find persuasive and study how it uses emotion.

And if you are trying to be persuasive, see if creating more emotion in the audience helps you!
