Introduction

We're going to do impressions of some distinctive writing styles, including horoscopes, classified advertisements and comics. To give us something to write about, we'll use this photo as inspiration.

A diver swimming near the statue 'Christ of the Sailors'.

While there is no image credit for the photo, the statue is called ‘Kristu tal-Baħħara’ which, in English, means ‘Christ of the Sailors’. It’s located two kilometers (1.2 miles) off the coast of Malta and was made by Maltese sculptor Alfred Camilleri Cauchi in 1990.

Spoiler: The position of the diver in the photo makes the statue look huge! It’s actually about three metres tall (9.8 feet) Still… impressive!

We'll do five exercises. For each exercise, you'll get a snippet in a particular style, and then an example showing how you could apply that style to the image.

Once you submit, you’ll be able to read and react to responses from others in your group.

If you're ready, let's write!
